ABB AI563 AC500-eCo 4-Channel Thermocouple Input Module
Four thermocouple channels combine 16-bit temperature acquisition with wire-break supervision.
Key Information
ABB AI563 is an S500-eCo analog input module for thermocouple and low-level voltage measurement. It provides four analog inputs for thermocouple types S, T, R, E, N, K and J and also supports a plus or minus 80 mV range. The module initializes its measuring circuitry after the 24 V process supply is applied and provides valid measurement values after the documented start-up interval. Its sensor set, four-channel layout and wire-break behavior distinguish it directly from the two-channel RTD-focused AI562.

Installation
- Install the required removable 9-pin and 11-pin terminal blocks; these are not included with the module.
- Use shielded wiring for analog signal sources and follow ABB grounding and equipotential-bonding guidance.
- Allow the documented 6 to 8 second initialization period after applying the UP/ZP process supply before accepting measurements.
- If AI563 is connected through a PROFINET communication interface, ABB specifies communication-interface firmware version 1.2 or later.
- Configure each channel for the exact thermocouple type and keep every applied signal inside the selected measuring range.
- Commission wire-break diagnostics and temperature scaling before the channel is used for heater or process control.
Lifecycle
- ABB lists article 1TNE968902R1103 as Active.
- Terminal blocks remain separate active ordering items with screw or spring connection variants.
- Wire-break detection is implemented in modules from production index A5; record the installed production index during service work.
- The existing device description remains applicable to the updated wire-break-capable module according to ABB product information.
- After exchange, verify cold-junction handling, sensor polarity, open-circuit response and the complete temperature-control loop.
