ABB AO522 AC500 8-Channel High-Resolution Analog Output Module
Eight individually configurable 16-bit voltage/current outputs support precise actuator commands.
Key Information
ABB AO522 is an S500 analog output module with eight channels configurable for voltage or current operation. Every channel supports minus 10 to plus 10 V, 0 to 20 mA and 4 to 20 mA ranges with 16-bit resolution including sign. The module is galvanically isolated against the internal supply and other modules, provides channel status LEDs and is installed on a TU515 or TU516 terminal unit. Its eight universal high-resolution outputs must not be confused with the mixed-range sixteen-channel architecture of AO523.

Installation
- Mount AO522 on the correct TU515 or TU516 terminal unit and lock the module fully into position.
- Disconnect all supply and process voltages before wiring or replacement unless every ABB hot-swap condition is met.
- Supply the output circuits with 24 V DC through UP and ZP and include ZP in the system grounding concept.
- Use shielded analog cables and provide equipotential bonding so the potential difference between ZP and AGND remains within the documented limit.
- Confirm that each current-loop load, including cable resistance, remains within 0 to 500 ohm.
- Parameterize unused channels correctly and verify each output range, direction and safe substitute behavior during commissioning.
Lifecycle
- ABB lists standard article 1SAP250900R0001 as Active.
- AO522-XC is a separate active article for extreme environmental conditions and must be ordered by its own number.
- Preserve the exact eight-channel range assignment and output scaling when replacing an installed module.
- Do not migrate to AO523 by channel count alone because resolution and current-capable channel allocation are different.
- After replacement, test voltage and current outputs under load and confirm communication-error substitute values.
