ABB CI592-CS31 Mixed I/O Communication Interface Module
Mixed signal channels and local expansion bring sensor, actuator and discrete data onto the ABB CS31 bus.
Product Identification
CI592-CS31 is an active ABB communication interface for decentralized AC500/S500 I/O on the CS31 fieldbus. Its onboard design combines analog and digital functions, supports local fast-counter operation and uses rotary switches for station addressing. Compatible S500 modules may extend the station through the local I/O bus within the documented CS31 resource limits.

Functions
- Operates as a decentralized CS31 bus station.
- Acquires supported voltage, current and resistance-temperature signals.
- Generates analog voltage or current commands for connected field devices.
- Combines dedicated digital inputs with a configurable digital group.
- Supports diagnostics, fast counting and local S500 I/O expansion.
Applications
- CS31 process skids that need mixed analog and digital signals at one node.
- Machine upgrades consolidating measurement, command and discrete I/O.
- Distributed temperature and transmitter acquisition on AC500 systems.
- Service replacements where the original CS31 addressing scheme must remain.
- Remote stations expanded with compatible S500 modules within documented limits.
Lifecycle
- ABB lists the standard CI592-CS31 article in the Active lifecycle phase.
- The XC environmental version is a separate article and must be selected explicitly.
- A station can use compatible local expansion only within the CS31 address and resource rules.
- Back up analog ranges, digital directions, counter settings and bus address before exchange.
- Recommission the network and every channel type after module replacement.
