The ABB NBRA-656C is a high‑performance braking chopper module designed for use with the ABB ACS family of
inverters. In essence, it monitors the DC intermediate circuit voltage of the drive and, when that voltage exceeds a
preset threshold (typically during rapid deceleration or dynamic braking), it activates a braking resistor via the chopper
to dissipate the excess energy safely. It’s typically used in applications where the motor/generator acts as a generator,
and the drive needs to dissipate energy quickly to avoid over‑voltage trips.
