The ABB SPCD 3D53-AB is a three‑phase stabilized differential relay module, used as the differential 

protection unit within the broader ABB SPAD 346 C (and related) protection relays. It provides essential 

protection against winding short‑circuits and inter‑turn faults in transformers and generator/transformer 

sets by comparing phase currents on both the high‑voltage and low‑voltage sides and issuing a trip signal

if the calculated differential current exceeds the preset threshold of the stabilized characteristic or its 

instantaneous protection stage.
