Overview

TA5141-RS232I adds one isolated RS-232 point-to-point interface to a compatible ABB AC500-eCo V3 processor. The board is intended for a COMx option slot and provides the signal set required for transmit, receive and hardware handshaking.

The removable five-pin connection separates RTS, TxD, common, RxD and CTS. Two front indicators show transmit and receive activity, helping commissioning personnel distinguish interface activity from application-level communication behavior.

Features

  • Electrical isolation supports a defined serial-interface boundary between the processor option board and the connected RS-232 device.
  • RTS and CTS signals allow hardware-handshake operation in addition to the transmit, receive and common conductors.
  • The removable spring terminal simplifies field wiring and permits the terminal block to be separated from the board during service.
  • Dedicated TxD and RxD LEDs provide immediate communication-activity feedback at the controller.
  • The standard version and the TA5141-RS232IW wide-temperature version are distinct orderable products.
04

Applications

  • Point-to-point serial communication between an AC500-eCo V3 controller and equipment using an RS-232 interface.
  • Machine upgrades that require an additional COMx channel without changing the processor platform.
  • Commissioning arrangements where transmit and receive activity must be visible at the option board.
  • Connections that use RTS/CTS hardware handshaking for controlled data exchange.
  • Service replacement of the same option-board type after firmware and engineering-tool compatibility are checked.
05

Lifecycle

  • The standard order code 1SAP187300R0001 is listed in the Active lifecycle phase.
  • Boards manufactured from 2023 require the documented minimum Automation Builder, system-firmware and boot-firmware levels; lower versions can produce a configuration error and prevent the CPU from starting.
  • The included five-pin serial terminal must not be confused with the visually similar TA5101-4DI input terminal, because applying 24 V to the serial interface can damage it.
  • Before replacement, retain the CPU type, option-slot assignment, serial parameters, handshake use, terminal wiring and installed firmware versions.

FAQ

Which serial standard does TA5141-RS232I provide?

It provides one electrically isolated RS-232 point-to-point interface for a COMx option slot.

Does the board support hardware handshaking?

Yes. Its five-pin interface includes RTS and CTS together with TxD, RxD and GND.

What baud-rate range is documented?

The supported transmission-rate range is 9.6 kbit/s through 115.2 kbit/s.

What do the two communication LEDs indicate?

The LEDs indicate transmit-data and receive-data activity on the serial interface.

Why must the terminal block be identified carefully?

A five-pin terminal from the TA5101-4DI can place 24 V on the serial connector and damage the communication interface.

What must be checked for boards produced from 2023?

Verify the required Automation Builder, system-firmware and boot-firmware levels before installing the board.
