The ABB TB840A 3BSE037760R1 is a ModuleBus Cluster Modem in the ABB System 800xA / S800 I/O family that provides the fiber‑optic interface between Optical ModuleBus and electrical ModuleBus used in distributed process I/O networks.

The TB840A 3BSE037760R1 supports redundancy configurations where each modem connects to separate optical ModuleBus lines while remaining on the same electrical ModuleBus. A maximum of 12 I/O modules can be connected on the electrical bus and up to seven clusters can be connected via the fiber‑optic link, making the module suitable for local I/O distribution and larger I/O stations that exceed the limits of a purely electrical ModuleBus.

The modem includes two optical ports to the ModuleBus, isolated power supply to I/O modules, and supervisory ModuleBus communication functions, and it supports hot‑swappable operation in redundant module configurations.
