AC500 / S500 | Spring terminals with hot-swap support

ABB TU516-H Hot-Swap I/O Terminal Unit

A 24 V DC spring-terminal base for compatible analog and digital I/O modules that require the designated hot-swap terminal-unit arrangement.

BrandABB
ModelTU516-H
Product TypeAC500 Hot-Swap I/O Terminal Unit
01

Overview

TU516-H is the hot-swap member of the ABB TU516 terminal-unit family. It provides the field-wiring base for compatible AC500 and S500 analog or 24 V DC digital I/O modules while keeping the module and wiring functions physically separated.

Forty front terminals accommodate as many as 32 module channels in four groups. The inserted I/O module determines the actual channel allocation, while the base distributes the UP and ZP process-supply connections across the documented terminal groups.

Features

  • Hot-swap construction distinguishes TU516-H from the standard TU516 spring-terminal base.
  • Spring-clamp connections support field wiring without the screw-tightening operation used by the related TU515 base.
  • Two mechanical locks secure a properly seated I/O module to the terminal unit.
  • The base preserves the field terminations when the compatible plug-in I/O module is removed under the approved service procedure.
  • Four groups provide an organized terminal map for as many as eight channels per group.
04

Applications

  • Distributed AC500 or S500 I/O stations where the installed module and system configuration explicitly support hot-swap operation.
  • Maintenance-sensitive process or machine-control panels that require the field wiring to remain on the terminal base during a compatible module exchange.
  • Analog and 24 V DC digital signal groups using the terminal allocation assigned by the selected ABB I/O module.
  • DIN-rail or wall-mounted control assemblies supplied from a documented 24 V DC process-power arrangement.
05

Lifecycle

  • Preserve the complete TU516-H model and order code during replacement because standard TU516, TU516-XC and TU516-H-XC products are separate variants.
  • Confirm that the inserted I/O module, module hardware index and bus-master configuration permit hot-swap operation before treating the base as an online-replacement solution.
  • Label all forty terminal positions and record the I/O module type, station address and process-supply grouping before removing an installed base.
  • Check the DIN-rail grounding, UP/ZP polarity and mechanical locks before returning a replaced station to service.

FAQ

What is the defining difference between TU516-H and TU516?

TU516-H is the designated hot-swap terminal unit; TU516 is the standard spring-terminal version.

Which module types are intended for this base?

It is designed for compatible ABB analog and 24 V DC digital I/O modules.

How many channels can the terminal unit accommodate?

The maximum is 32 channels in four groups, while the installed I/O module defines the actual allocation.

Does the terminal unit alone guarantee hot-swap operation?

No. The installed module, its hardware index and the bus-master configuration must also support the approved hot-swap arrangement.

Which field-connection method is used?

TU516-H uses spring terminals.

What must be documented before replacing the base?

Record the exact order code, I/O module, station configuration, UP/ZP wiring and every channel label.
