ABB TU516 S500 I/O Terminal Unit
A 24 V DC spring-terminal base with forty field connections for compatible analog and digital S500 I/O modules.
Product Identification
TU516 is the spring-terminal standard I/O base for compatible ABB analog and 24 V DC digital modules in AC500/S500 stations. It joins the local I/O bus and provides the common field-termination layer beneath the plug-in I/O module.
The forty terminals support four groups of up to eight module-defined channels. Spring clamps distinguish TU516 from the screw-terminal TU515 product.

Functions
- Provides spring-clamp connections for field signals and the UP/ZP process supply.
- Connects the installed I/O module to both sides of the S500 local I/O bus.
- Retains the plug-in module with two mechanical locks.
- Keeps field wiring on the base when a supported I/O module is removed under the correct service conditions.
- Establishes functional grounding through the conductive mounting arrangement.
Applications
- S500 digital, analog or mixed-I/O stations whose module documentation specifies TU515 or TU516.
- Control cabinets standardized on vibration-resistant spring-clamp field termination.
- Local I/O expansion with up to thirty-two terminal positions assigned by the installed module.
- Maintenance work where an I/O module is exchanged without rewiring its base.
- Standard AC500 installations in horizontal or vertical mounting orientation.
Lifecycle
- ABB lists standard TU516 order code 1SAP212000R0001 as Active.
- TU516-XC, TU516-H and TU516-H-XC are separate products for different environmental or hot-swap requirements.
- Standard TU516 alone does not authorize hot swapping; the terminal-unit designation, module index and bus-master support must satisfy the documented conditions.
- Maintain records of the inserted module, terminal map, supply grouping and base variant for service planning.
