AC500 / S500 | Spring terminals for AC and relay modules

ABB TU532 AC and Relay I/O Terminal Unit

A spring-terminal field-wiring base for compatible 120/230 V AC and relay I/O modules in ABB AC500 and S500 stations.

BrandABB
ModelTU532
Product TypeAC500 I/O Terminal Unit
01

Overview

TU532 is an ABB I/O terminal unit for compatible AC-voltage and relay modules. It separates permanent field wiring from the plug-in I/O electronics and uses spring terminals for fast, repeatable conductor termination.

The base provides forty front terminals arranged for as many as thirty-two module-defined channels. Four groups allow the inserted I/O module to assign up to eight channels per group within the documented voltage and current limits.

Features

  • Spring-clamp terminal technology distinguishes TU532 from the screw-terminal TU531 counterpart.
  • The plug-in I/O module determines the actual channel allocation, allowing the same base concept to serve compatible AC and relay functions.
  • Mechanical locks retain the module after it is fully seated on the terminal unit.
  • The field conductors remain attached to the base when a compatible I/O module is removed for service.
  • The compact base supports both horizontal and vertical panel arrangements within the documented installation rules.
04

Applications

  • AC500 and S500 distributed I/O stations using approved AC-input, AC-output or relay modules.
  • Control panels where spring-terminal wiring is preferred for maintenance and production assembly.
  • Machine and process-control cabinets requiring a removable I/O module above a retained field-wiring base.
  • Retrofit work where the exact terminal technology and module class must match the existing station.
05

Lifecycle

  • Use order code 1SAP217000R0001 to distinguish this standard spring-terminal version from TU531, TU532-H and XC variants.
  • ABB lists TU532 as an active product, but the host I/O module and field-voltage class still require independent confirmation.
  • Record the inserted module, terminal labels and group wiring before exchanging an installed terminal unit.
  • Check conductor seating, protective separation and both module locks before restoring power.

FAQ

What is the main difference between TU532 and TU531?

TU532 uses spring terminals, while TU531 provides screw terminals for the same general AC and relay module class.

Is TU532 intended for 24 V DC high-current modules?

No. The TU541 and TU542 family is intended for that high-current 24 V DC role.

How many channels can the base accommodate?

It supports up to 32 module-defined channels in four groups of up to eight.

Does the base determine the signal assignment?

No. The inserted ABB I/O module defines the actual use of each channel terminal.

Is this the hot-swap version?

No. TU532-H is the separately identified hot-swap spring-terminal unit.

What details should accompany a TU532 enquiry?

Include the order code, installed I/O module, terminal voltage class, wiring style and station configuration.
