POINT I/O | Single-port EtherNet/IP adapter

Allen-Bradley 1734-AENT POINT I/O EtherNet/IP Adapter

A single-port 10/100 Mbit/s EtherNet/IP adapter for connecting as many as sixty-three POINT I/O modules in star or tree network topologies.

BrandAllen-Bradley
Model1734-AENT
Identification1734-AENT

Product Overview

1734-AENT connects an Allen-Bradley POINT I/O station to EtherNet/IP through one RJ45 network port. The adapter manages communication between the network controller and the POINTBus backplane while supplying backplane power to the attached I/O modules.

The single-port architecture is intended for star or tree Ethernet layouts. A complete node can contain up to sixty-three POINT I/O modules, with expansion power supplies added when the module load exceeds the available POINTBus current.

02

Performance

  • Communicates at 10 or 100 Mbit/s with half- or full-duplex operation.
  • Supports direct, rack-optimized and enhanced rack-optimized EtherNet/IP connections.
  • Provides up to 1.0 A at 5 V DC to the POINTBus backplane.
  • Supports a maximum POINT I/O node size of sixty-three modules.
  • Uses one RJ45 Category 5 network connector for star or tree topology.
  • Installs on grounded EN 50022 35 x 7.5 mm DIN rail.

System Integration

  • Acts as the head adapter for a POINT I/O station connected to a Logix-class EtherNet/IP architecture.
  • Requires an external Ethernet switch when multiple network devices must be connected in a star or tree arrangement.
  • Supports expansion power modules such as 1734-EP24DC or 1734-EPAC when the node needs additional backplane current or a new field-power segment.
  • Must be configured with the correct IP address, chassis size, electronic keying and I/O connection method.
  • Is not a direct two-port ring replacement for 1734-AENTR; the topology and port arrangement differ.
05

Applications

  • Distributed POINT I/O stations connected through a plant Ethernet switch.
  • Compact machine cells using a star-topology EtherNet/IP network.
  • Tree networks where each remote station needs one adapter connection.
  • Retrofit of an existing single-port 1734-AENT node after the module order is documented.
  • Remote I/O panels that require rack-optimized or direct Logix connections.

FAQ

How many Ethernet ports does 1734-AENT provide?

It has one RJ45 EtherNet/IP port.

Which network layouts suit the single-port adapter?

Rockwell Automation lists star and tree topologies for 1734-AENT.

How many POINT I/O modules can one node contain?

A node can include up to sixty-three POINT I/O modules, subject to current and connection planning.

When is an expansion power supply required?

Add one when the attached module load exceeds available POINTBus current or when a new field-power segment is needed.

Can 1734-AENT form a Device Level Ring by itself?

No. Its single-port design is not the dual-port embedded-switch arrangement used for linear or ring networks.

What should be recorded before replacement?

Record the IP settings, chassis size, module order, connection type, keying and backplane-current calculation.
