The Allen‑Bradley 1785-BEM is a legacy Backup Communications Expansion Module designed to extend the 

communication redundancy capabilities of a PLC‑5 backup system. It functions as an expansion module for the 

1785-BEM and provides additional configurable communication channels for use within PLC‑5 automation systems. 

The 1785-BEM integrates with the PLC‑5 backplane architecture to support seamless communication management 

when paired with primary and standby processors, enhancing system resilience and continuity in industrial automation 

environments.
