ICS Triplex / Rockwell Automation T8431 40-Channel 24 V DC TMR Analog Input Module

A safety-system analog input module that applies triple modular redundancy and channel diagnostics across forty field inputs.

01
PRODUCT CONTEXT

Technical Summary

The Trusted T8431 interfaces to 40 sourcing field devices and operates as the current sink for those inputs. Every channel is processed through an internal Triple Modular Redundant architecture.

Open- and short-circuit line monitoring can be selected independently by channel. The module also records Sequence of Events entries at 1 ms resolution when configured thresholds detect a state change.

For a controlled spare, retain the module series, chassis position, field termination arrangement, threshold configuration and Companion Slot or SmartSlot strategy as one system record.

CAPABILITY PROFILE

Features

01

Channel-level fault tolerance

Three internal measurement paths support fault-tolerant acquisition without reducing the forty-point field count.

02

Selectable cable supervision

Each point can be configured to detect open- and short-circuit field wiring faults.

03

Online maintenance path

The manufacturer supports online replacement through an adjacent Companion Slot or a designated SmartSlot.

04

Visible operating state

Front indicators report channel condition, field-wiring faults, module health and Active, Standby or Educated status.

DECISION MATRIX

Compatibility

CHECKDECISION BOUNDARY
A

Trusted chassis record

Confirm controller chassis, physical slot, module series and Trusted system release before supply.

B

Termination and threshold set

Preserve the field cable, termination unit, channel thresholds, line-monitoring selections and auxiliary field-return connections.

C

Safety-function evidence

Use the approved application, safety manual and proof-test record to confirm the replacement boundary.

SERVICE PATH

Replacement

BEFORE

Freeze the installed baseline

Archive the application and record all channel states, thresholds, line-monitor settings and active module identity.

FIT

Follow the approved slot method

Use the documented Companion Slot or SmartSlot procedure and verify polarization and keying before insertion.

VERIFY

Prove the complete input path

Check diagnostics, representative signals, SOE behavior and every affected safety function before closeout.

CUSTOMER QUESTIONS

FAQ

Q01

What system evidence should accompany a T8431 enquiry?

Provide the complete front and side labels, series, chassis and slot, termination-unit identity, Trusted release and the approved Companion Slot or SmartSlot arrangement.

Q02

Can a standard analog input card replace T8431?

No. The forty-channel TMR architecture, diagnostic behavior, line monitoring, SOE handling and safety-system integration must all be preserved.

Q03

How should unused channels on T8431 be treated?

Keep their configured thresholds, line-monitor selections and terminal condition in the controlled application; unused points still belong to the validated module configuration.

Q04

Which records reduce risk before removing T8431?

Capture channel status, module diagnostics, active/standby state, field-supply values, event configuration and the last accepted proof-test results.

Q05

What demonstrates that T8431 is ready for service?

Confirm correct module recognition, clear diagnostics, plausible input values, required wiring-fault detection and successful testing of every impacted safety function.
