Vibro-Meter IPC704 Configurable Signal Conditioner
A configurable conditioner that converts charge signals from piezoelectric sensors for external monitoring and protection systems.
Overview
Vibro-Meter IPC704 converts the charge-based output of compatible CPxxx pressure sensors or CAxxx accelerometers into a current-modulated or voltage-modulated signal for an external monitoring or protection system.
IPC704 variants were ordered by complete 244-704-000-xxx material number. Environment, input, transfer gain, filtering and output selection are configuration-controlled and must be taken from the installed label rather than assumed from the IPC704 family name.
Engineering Data
Functions
The conditioning stage makes a piezoelectric charge signal suitable for remote monitoring or machinery-protection electronics.
A current-output chain can use two-wire transmission and a GSI127 galvanic separation unit for long-distance signal transfer.
ABA171, ABA172 and ABA173 housings support DIN-rail installations; ABA160 protects one IPC704 on a base plate.
The full material-number suffix defines the installed configuration and is required for a defensible replacement decision.
Applications
- Pressure measurement chains built around compatible CPxxx piezoelectric transducers.
- Vibration measurement chains using compatible CAxxx piezoelectric accelerometers.
- Industrial housings that protect one or more IPC70x conditioners.
- Legacy systems being evaluated for conversion to the documented IPC707 successor.
Lifecycle & Service
- Record the complete 244-704-000-xxx material number, input sensor, output type and hazardous-area approvals.
- Keep the conductive housing isolated from ground to prevent earth loops in the measurement chain.
- Use the approved wiring diagram and certification parameters for every hazardous-area calculation.
- When migrating to IPC707, review grounding, filtering, connectors and proof-test requirements rather than relying on family equivalence alone.
FAQ
Q01Can IPC704 be ordered accurately from the family name alone?+
No. The complete 244-704-000-xxx material number is needed because environment and signal-path options were configured at manufacture.
Q02Why can grounding an IPC704 housing create a measurement problem?+
The metal housing is connected to COM. An unintended ground connection can create an earth loop, so the housing must remain electrically isolated as documented.
Q03Is IPC707 always a wire-for-wire IPC704 replacement?+
Meggitt describes IPC707 as the form, fit and function successor, but the installed output mode, approvals, grounding, filters and terminal wiring still require a project-level comparison.
Q04What chain information should accompany an IPC704 fault enquiry?+
Provide the sensor type, cable and connector identifiers, complete conditioner material number, housing, power source, output mode, monitor input and observed DC and dynamic signals.
Q05How should an existing IndustryParts IPC704 page be handled?+
A current page identifies the specific 244-704-000-042 variant. Confirm the installed full material number before editing that page or creating a separate IPC704 execution.
