Product Information
The Bently Nevada 990 Vibration Transmitter is intended primarily for OEM applications on centrifugal air compressors, small pumps, motors and fans where a proportional vibration signal is required by a machinery control system. It is a two-wire, loop-powered device that accepts one 3300 NSv proximity probe and its matching extension cable.
The transmitter conditions peak-to-peak vibration amplitude and supplies an industry-standard 4-20 mA signal to the control system for alarming and logic. An integrated Proximitor Sensor, diagnostic PROX OUT, zero and span adjustments, test input and a Not OK/Signal Defeat circuit are included in the manufacturer description.
Designation control: 990-04-50-01-00 is the configured vibration transmitter. 122115-01 is a separately ordered 990/991 Test Adapter accessory. Confirm the quotation or packing list when both numbers are required in one supply package.

122115-01 Test Adapter
The manufacturer lists 122115-01 as the 990/991 Test Adapter. The package includes the adapter, a 9 V battery, universal AC adapter, North American power cord, user guide and soft carrying case.
-
Isolates the 990 transmitter PROX OUT signal from grounded AC-powered diagnostic equipment.
-
Inverts the PROX OUT signal to match the standard Bently Nevada Proximitor Sensor polarity convention.
-
Supports two channels so an XY probe configuration can be displayed as an orbit.
-
Is strongly recommended by the manufacturer when AC-powered test equipment is connected.
Applications and System Integration
Centrifugal Compressors
Compact proximity measurement for OEM installations.
Small Pumps and Motors
Overall peak-to-peak vibration trending.
Fans
4-20 mA input to PLC, DCS or other machinery logic.
Diagnostic Verification
PROX OUT used with isolated equipment or 122115-01.
Functional limitation: the 4-20 mA signal provides overall peak-to-peak vibration trending but does not provide vibration phase, gap alarm, phase alarm, Timed OK channel defeat, Danger Bypass or Trip Multiply functions. It is not a substitute for a plant-wide dynamic diagnostic system.
Installation and Compatibility Requirements
-
System matching: use a 3300 NSv proximity probe and extension cable that together match the 5.0 m system-length option.
-
Range: the receiving control channel must be scaled for 0-4 mils peak-to-peak (0-100 µm pp).
-
Mounting: option 01 is for 35 mm DIN-rail clips; a bulkhead-screw-only installation is a different catalog option.
-
Approvals: suffix 00 means agency approval is not required. Do not use this exact configuration where certified hazardous-area approval is mandatory.
-
Diagnostics: connect battery-powered or isolated equipment directly to PROX OUT. Use 122115-01 for grounded AC-powered equipment.
-
Target: manufacturer performance data is based on an AISI 4140 steel target under the stated test conditions.
Lifecycle and Replacement
Current manufacturer status: Bently Nevada Datasheet 141612 Rev. Y, copyright 2026, continues to list the 990 transmitter family, exact ordering option 990-04-50-01-00 and accessory 122115-01.
Discontinuation date: no discontinuation date is stated in the current public manufacturer datasheet.
Replacement model: the current public datasheet does not publish a direct replacement for this exact configuration. Another 990 code is not automatically interchangeable unless full-scale range, system length, mounting, approval, power, loop loading, probe system and installation conditions are all confirmed. The 991 is a thrust transmitter and is not a direct replacement for the 990 vibration transmitter.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What does 990-04-50-01-00 mean?
It specifies the 990 vibration-transmitter family, 0-4 mils pp full scale, 5.0 m system length, 35 mm DIN-rail clips and no required agency approval.
2. Is 122115-01 part of the transmitter itself?
No. The manufacturer lists it separately as the 990/991 Test Adapter. Confirm that both catalog numbers are included when a combined supply is required.
3. What is the primary output?
A two-wire 4-20 mAdc signal proportional to peak-to-peak vibration over the selected full-scale range.
4. Which probe system is compatible?
The 990 accepts one Bently Nevada 3300 NSv proximity probe and matching extension cable.
5. What power supply is required?
The transmitter requires +12 to +35 Vdc at its terminals.
6. When is the 122115-01 Test Adapter required?
Use it when connecting grounded, AC-powered diagnostic equipment to PROX OUT so the signal is isolated and its polarity is inverted.
7. Is option 00 suitable for hazardous areas?
Option 00 means agency approval is not required. Select and verify the appropriate certified option for any hazardous-area installation.
8. Can the 990 replace a full machinery protection system?
No. It provides practical overall vibration trending and loop alarming but does not provide all functions of a continuous dynamic monitoring system.
9. Can a 991 transmitter replace this 990?
No. The 991 is intended for thrust or axial-displacement measurement, while the 990 is a vibration transmitter.
10. Has this exact product been discontinued?
The current manufacturer datasheet continues to list it and states no discontinuation date. Confirm current orderability at quotation time.
