01

Product Overview

A6220 is an Emerson AMS 6500 Shaft Eccentricity Monitor. The 3U, one-slot module accepts two independent eddy-current measurement paths and is designed for machinery protection applications.

The monitor is used to observe slow-roll shaft eccentricity below 600 rpm and supports compatible PR6422, PR6423, PR6424 and PR6425 sensor systems.

02

Performance

01

Processes two independent eddy-current differential inputs for shaft eccentricity measurement.

02

Covers an input frequency range of 0.017 to 70 Hz, corresponding to 102 to 4200 rpm in the documented configuration.

03

Provides selectable measurement spans from 0–400 mV peak minimum to 0–8000 mV peak maximum.

04

Performs continuous checks of hardware, power, temperature and sensor/cable condition.

System Integration

  • Confirm rack slot, channel configuration, sensor family, converter calibration and voting logic before replacing A6220.
  • Back up the AMS 6500 configuration and record alarm, danger, bypass and remote limit-multiply settings.
  • Verify buffered and analog output destinations as well as sensor supply and cable condition.
  • Test slow-roll measurement and the full protection path before restoring trip service.
05

Applications

  • Slow-roll shaft eccentricity monitoring on critical rotating machinery.
  • AMS 6500 protection systems requiring a two-channel API 670 monitor.
  • Retrofit or replacement work using compatible Emerson eddy-current sensor systems.

FAQ

What sensor information is required before ordering A6220?

Provide both sensor and converter models, sensitivity, cable length, channel scale and the existing AMS 6500 configuration.

Can A6220 be hot-swapped without process planning?

The module design is hot-swappable, but protection bypass, voting impact, rack procedure and site authorization must still be planned before removal.

Why does A6220 need a slow-roll commissioning check?

Eccentricity is evaluated at low speed, so slow-roll behavior, runout and phase reference must be verified under the machine-specific protection plan.

What should be backed up before replacing A6220?

Save the complete rack configuration, channel scales, filters, alarm and danger thresholds, relay logic, bypass state and output assignments.

How should an A6220 spare be accepted?

Verify exact identity, connector and card-edge condition, calibration/test evidence, ESD packaging and compatibility with the installed rack release.
