Parker Meggitt TQ902 Standard-Mount Proximity Sensor
A non-contact eddy-current sensor for shaft relative vibration and gap or position measurement in calibrated TQ9xx measurement chains.
Overview
TQ902 is the standard-mount proximity sensor in Parker Meggitt’s vibro-meter TQ9xx measurement-chain platform. It measures the relative displacement of a metallic target without physical contact.
A complete chain combines the sensor with an optional EA902 extension cable and an IQS900 signal conditioner. Sensor cable length, extension cable and conditioner configuration determine the approved total system length and calibrated response.
The sensor uses a stainless-steel body, a PPS sensing tip and an integral coaxial cable terminated by a self-locking miniature coaxial connector.
Specifications
Features
Contactless shaft observation avoids mechanical loading at the measurement point.
Temperature-compensated chain design supports rotating-machinery monitoring.
Standard and Ex configurations cover ordinary and appropriately certified hazardous-area installations.
IQS900 options support voltage or current output and optional measurement-chain diagnostics.
Applications
- Shaft relative vibration monitoring on turbines, alternators, turbo-compressors and pumps.
- Axial position and gap measurement in machinery-protection or advanced condition-monitoring systems.
- API 670 applications using the correctly configured measurement chain.
- Speed or tachometer duties in approved overspeed-detection arrangements.
Lifecycle
- Record the complete sensor ordering code, body thread, integral-cable length and optional cable protection before replacement.
- Keep the approved total system length unchanged unless the complete sensor, EA902 cable and IQS900 configuration are reviewed.
- For an Ex chain, every sensor, cable and conditioner component must carry the matching hazardous-area option.
- After installation, verify gap, dynamic signal, cable integrity and monitor-channel scaling before returning protection functions to service.
FAQ
Can TQ902 be replaced by TQ912?
No direct substitution should be assumed. TQ902 is standard-mount, while TQ912 is reverse-mount; mechanical installation and the complete ordering code must match.
What information should accompany a TQ902 quotation?
Provide the full sensor code, body thread, integral-cable length, optional protection, total system length, EA902 code, IQS900 configuration and hazardous-area requirement.
Can an EA902 cable be changed without recalibrating the TQ902 chain?
Use only combinations documented for the required total system length. Changing cable length changes the measurement-chain configuration and must be reviewed as a complete chain.
What target material is required for TQ902?
The target must be metallic. If the target differs from the calibration material, obtain the applicable performance data before relying on the measurement.
How should TQ902 be checked after installation?
Confirm the mechanical gap, connector condition, cable routing, signal polarity, channel scaling, diagnostics and the required machinery-protection test.
